Helicopter to the Largest Ancient Pyramid in the World |

El Mirador Among
the great cities of the ancient Maya, El Mirador is known only to
archaeologists and National Geographic reporters, because it takes
three days walking with mules through hot, steamy jungles to reach the
ancient site (dated pre- 200 AD). Located in the Maya Biosphere
Reserve of the Peten lowlands of Guatemala, the El Mirador basin
contains the earliest and largest cities in the Maya world and the
highest concentration of ancient sites in the region. The monumental
architecture is the largest in the western hemisphere, larger at the
base (though not taller) than the Egyptian pyramids.
Visit
Tikal with our expert Guatemalan guides, Alfonso and Diana Muralles,
then fly by private helicopter shuttle from Flores to meet on-site
archaeologist, Dr. Richard Hansen, for a private tour of this active
archaeological dig where exciting new finds call into question the
chronology of the development of Mayan societies of the pre-classic
period, c. 2000 BC to AD 240. Go to Guatemala... |

Lago di Como At
approximately 1,350 feet deep, Como is the deepest lake in Europe. The
bottom of the lake is actually more than 650 feet below sea-level.
Como's polished mirror surface reflects the soaring alpine peaks behind
the lake, while palatial villas and waterfront towns that resemble
opera sets shimmer in the foreground.
Our trips next year
through the Italian Lake District begin on the shore of Lake Lugano,
beautifully positioned in the pre-Alps between Switzerland and Italy.
Move next to explore wildflower-splashed meadows, forests, vineyards
and olive groves around Lake Como. Linger in charming lakeside towns,
visiting villas and discovering delightful waterside restaurants run by
vibrant local people. Go to Italy |
